This position is located in the PIPE/FLEX HOSE SHOP, HULL DIVISION, REPAIR DEPARTMENT (TRF-300) of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.

About the role

You will serve as a leader responsible for performing and overseeing work involving assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair of submarine piping systems. This includes developing training curriculum, providing demonstrations of proper work methods, and ensuring accurate completion of all documentation associated with work operations.

Responsibilities

  • Remove, repair, manufacture, and reinstall piping systems and equipment aboard ships and submarines.
  • Lead other pipefitters in the assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair of submarine piping systems (e.g., saltwater, oxygen, steam, nitrogen, oil, high pressure air, nuclear, feedwater, condensate).
  • Develop training curriculum and materials necessary to conduct classroom and shop training, including lesson plans, instructor guides, handouts, wall charts, transparencies, training aids, and examinations.
  • Provide demonstrations of proper work methods and ensure accurate completion of all documentation associated with work operations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives pertaining to pipefitting operations, and answer questions from other workers.
  • Troubleshoot submarine piping systems and equipment.
  • Plan weekly work schedules, determine assignments, and establish deadlines.
  • Interpret blueprints, instructions, and specifications, and perform pipefitting measurement and layout.
  • Set the working pace to ensure schedules and completion dates are met safely and work closely with shop supervisors to prevent delays.
  • Ensure personnel training needs, equipment, material, or personnel shortages or problems are addressed in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to maintain the required level of clearance may result in withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Must review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101 as supervisors have a heightened responsibility for advancing government ethics.
  • May require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS locations, including remote or isolated sites. Must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods.
  • Must obtain and maintain a current IT level II designation.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment (e.g., helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, safety shoes) continuously during work shifts.
  • Work is performed in areas with potentially harmful physical and chemical agents (e.g., fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, chemicals). Must participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay may be required.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position. Emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Your qualifications will be evaluated based on your level of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies in the following job elements:

  • Ability to lead or supervise (screen-out element). Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on this element will be found ineligible.
  • Experience developing training curriculum and materials (e.g., lesson plans, instructor guides, handouts, wall charts, transparencies, training aids, examinations) for classroom and shop training.
  • Experience working as a leader and leading pipefitters in the assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair of submarine systems (e.g., saltwater, oxygen, steam, nitrogen, oil, high pressure air, nuclear, feedwater, condensate).
  • Experience interpreting blueprints, instructions, and specifications, and performing pipefitting measurement and layout.
  • Experience following instructions from shop supervisors, setting work pace to meet schedules and completion dates safely, and collaborating with supervisors to prevent delays.
  • Experience demonstrating proper work methods and ensuring accurate completion of documentation associated with work operations, including addressing personnel training needs and equipment or material shortages.
