Join our team in Hawthorne, Nevada to support the Hawthorne Army Depot as a Pipefitter/Plumber. This role involves maintaining pipe and steam systems, including installation, repair, replacement, and upkeep of water/steam lines, valves, radiators, heaters, storage and condensate tanks, steam traps, control valves, fittings, expansion joints, and steam pressure systems. A Secret US Government Clearance is required; US Citizenship is mandatory to obtain this clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Plan piping/tubing system layouts, installations, or repairs according to specifications.
  • Modify, clean, and maintain pipe/steam systems, units, fittings, and related equipment using hand and power tools.
  • Install, repair, maintain, and replace water/steam lines, valves, radiators, heaters, storage and condensate tanks, steam traps, control valves, fittings, expansion joints, and steam pressure systems.
  • Measure and mark pipes for cutting, threading, and welding.
  • Use tools such as saws, cutting torches, pipe threaders, benders, and welders.
  • Read blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layouts of plumbing, water, steam, and waste distribution systems.
  • Select and insert precut pieces of tubing, pipes, and fittings into holes.
  • Connect tubing/piping and fittings using solder, glues, or torches to form sewer, drain, and water/steam lines.
  • Remove and replace worn components.
  • Inspect, examine, and test installed systems and pipelines using pressure gauges, hydrostatic testing, or observation.
  • Install or recondition small steam/hot water boilers and auxiliary equipment.
  • Collaborate with other trades and laborers to meet specifications, procedures, and policies for efficient project completion.
  • Ensure all water/steam systems and waste drains are installed, repaired, and maintained to meet building code standards safely.
  • Maintain records of time and materials used on jobs and complete job orders.
  • Work under general supervision using oral instructions, preventive maintenance plans, work orders, emergency calls, layout sketches, blueprints, drawings, or specifications.
  • Review Task Hazard Analysis (THAs) prior to assigned duties and follow Safety Data Sheet guidelines for handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Perform work safely with concern for self and others, complying with environmental permits and regulations.
  • Maintain good attendance and punctuality.
  • Work near or in an ammunition and explosives demilitarization facility.
  • Perform other duties of the same or lower level of difficulty as assigned, including occasional higher-level tasks.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Four years of apprenticeship or one year as a journeyman Pipefitter/Plumber.
  • Certifiable technical or trade school completion/diploma.
  • Ability to read blueprints and use shop mathematics.
  • Valid State driver’s license or ability to obtain one.
  • Maintain fitness-for-duty standards to perform essential functions, including HWAD drills, contingencies, or emergencies.
  • Computer literate in common software applications and able to operate general office equipment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all certifications required by Amentum’s Master Training Plan.
  • Good writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to work overtime, varying hours, and/or rotating shifts.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving judgment.
  • Ability to work safely in a constant state of alertness.
  • Must obtain and maintain a clearance through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and be favorably vetted through the NCIC III System.
  • US Citizenship required to obtain a Secret US Government Clearance.

This position is designated as safety-sensitive and is subject to the HWAD Medical Surveillance Plan and Matrix, as well as the HWAD A&D Program. Candidates and incumbents must complete a personnel security investigation, drug testing, medical exam, respiratory screening, and meet suitability and reliability requirements under 29 CFR and Army Regulations: AR 190-11, AR 190-13, and DOD Contractors Safety Manual 4145.26.

Pay

$29.49 - $36.23 per hour. Actual compensation may vary based on job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
