Responsibilities and Duties

  • Cook, layout, fit up, install, assemble, and/or repair commercial piping systems including fixtures and equipment for piping systems.
  • Perform field fabrication of piping systems and set up the specific task or project schedule.
  • Sweat, braze, and weld copper systems.
  • Install hangars or supports for piping systems.
  • Make adjustments to work sequences to meet construction schedules, using own knowledge of equipment and lower-level personnel capacities.
  • Manage materials to ensure timely completion of the work scheduled.
  • Ensure optimal material consumption.
  • Read blueprints and interpret specifications.
  • Correct punch-list items and make distribution as required.
  • Plan work to make the most efficient use of assigned manpower and other resources.
  • Inspect work-in-progress and completed work to ensure conformance to contract and specification.
  • Ensure the needs of general contractors, owners, and other customers as well as entrusted employees are met.
  • Keep the superintendent or project manager aware of all issues affecting production and schedule.
  • Assist project manager and superintendents with problems or questions in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Attend, as required, all jobsite and office meetings related to assigned projects.
  • Serve as a coach and mentor to lower echelon to help them develop and improve their skills and increase their technical knowledge.
  • All other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Experience/Qualifications Required: 5+ years commercial experience in pipefitting/welding in field plumbing operations. Prior shop experience a plus. Completion of Apprenticeship program preferred. Stable work history.
    • Job Skills: Ability to read blueprints. Knowledge of plumbing and piping installation. Ability to fabricate offsets. Working knowledge of all hand and power tools. Able to do take-offs. Able to install equipment. Works within precise limits or standards of accuracy and productivity. Good math skills.
    • Education: High School or GED Equivalent. Trade School a plus. Minimum of 150 hours in pipe welding courses. Willing to obtain additional trade licenses and/or certifications.

      Physical Requirements

      • Eyesight correctable to 20/50.
      • Able to work long hours on feet.
      • Able to lift and climb ladders and scaffolds.
      • Able to perform shift work.
      • Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 60lbs.
      • Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
      • Must not be afraid of heights.

        Special Requirements

        • Valid Driver’s License.
        • Must provide own basic hand tools.
        • Able to operate heavy machinery.
        • Journeyman’s license if required.
        • OSHA 10 certificate.
