Primary Function
Assist Fitters/Welders with Laying out, installing, maintaining, and repairing all types of piping systems for maintenance, tank and new construction.
Typical Duties
- Actively supports the Company’s commitment to safety and its Core Values.

- Receives and understands instructions and prints regarding work assignment.
- Interprets drawings and sketches. Plans detail of working procedure and selects materials in accordance with engineering standards.
- Lays out work; calculates dimensions; makes sketches of piping systems when needed.
- Sets up and operates bending, threading and cutoff equipment and uses hand tools or torch to shape, prepare and fabricate pipe for work to be done.
- Tests, inspects, dismantles, repairs, replaces or installs any type of high- or low-pressure piping, tubing, fittings, fixtures and parts for the installation, maintenance and repair of pipelines for air, water, steam, oils, gases, acid, caustics, etc.
- Assembles and tests a variety of piping components.
- Fastsens hangers and supports.
- Handles or makes provision for the handling of materials, equipment and tools to and from job site in shop or field in connection with work.
- Makes report of work performed.
- Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of four (4) years or more in refinery maintenance/turnaround/or construction experience.
- A general knowledge of basic hand tools.
- Must be able to pass the Pipefitter Helper Skills Test at or above 70% or complete the NCCER certification for your craft.
- Complete Matrix Service Safety training, Process Safety Management training and Client / Site specific training.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain an active status within the approved drug testing program.
- Must be able to pass a Background check.
Physical Requirements
- Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting and lifting.
- Talk and hear to communicate.
- Use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, pull objects, materials, controls and tools.
- May be required to lift, carry and move up to 50lbs.
- Work at heights, climb ladders and stairways and work off of platforms. Work at heights up to 300' utilizing proper fall protection.
- Use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception and peripheral vision.
- Work outside in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow and wind; and must be able to work for long period of times up to 12 hours a day.
- Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and steel-toe boots.
