About the role

An Industrial Pipefitter will assemble, layout, install and maintain pipe systems on steam, fluid or gas systems. These systems may include pipe, flanges, supports, valves, gauges, hangars, and angles. Work locations span all parts of construction or maintenance sites, including buildings, outdoor areas, inside structures such as tanks or boilers, underground excavations, and at heights up to 300 ft.

Responsibilities

  • Read blueprints and specifications to determine the scope of work: locations, quantities, and sizes of materials required.
  • Identify all tools required for tasks.
  • Identify safety risks and the precautions required to eliminate those risks.
  • Prepare, fabricate, install, and fit pipe to specifications.
  • Install valves, hangars, supports, flanges inside piping systems according to plans and applicable specifications.
  • Perform tests to ensure the quality of the pipe and the piping systems.
  • Hoist loads using slings, chains, shackles, hooks, cables, and other rigging equipment.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated industrial construction/maintenance history experience.
  • Ability to read prints and construction drawings.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and manufacturers' manuals and instructions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of pipe fitting processes for industrial piping and boiler components for a combined-cycle power plant.
  • 4+ years' experience with pipe fitting processes.
  • Good problem-solving abilities.
  • Good aptitude and manual dexterity.
  • Good reading comprehension.
  • Ability to work with others as a team player.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication skills with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Commitment to Zachry values and safety rules and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Zachry ROF’d employee.
  • Former Zachry Employee.
  • NCCER Certification as an Industrial Pipe Fitter.
  • Formal/technical education.

Physical Requirements

  • Adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting.
  • Communicate by talking and hearing.
  • Demonstrate good dexterity with hands and fingers for precision adjustments of machinery parts and controls.
  • Use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
  • Lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasionally work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and work off platforms.
  • Work at heights up to 300’ utilizing proper fall protection.
  • Use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
  • Work outside in various elements including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind for extended periods up to 12 hours a day.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
