About the role

We are seeking Pipe Layers to join our Texas Division in the Alamogordo, New Mexico area.

Responsibilities

  • Install mechanical joint water line and bolt together water line.
  • Install air release valves and inline valves.
  • Grade for flow of sewer line pipe.
  • Lay ductile water line and PVC sewer pipe.
  • Set line and grade for water/sewer lines; prep grade for water/sewer lines.
  • Install water line with gaskets and mechanical joints.
  • Backfill waterline/sewer line to ensure sewer line has positive flow.
  • Plan pipe installation or repair according to specifications.
  • Align and position pipes for welding or sealing.
  • Check slopes for conformance to requirements and specifications.
  • Calculate and adjust grade using a level and laser.
  • Select type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications.
  • Measure and mark pipes to required length for cutting and threading.
  • Cut, thread, hammer, and weld pipe using saws, pipe threaders, and benders.
  • Connect pipe pieces and seal joints.
  • Locate existing pipes needing repair or replacement through potholing and/or excavation.
  • Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices.
  • Secure pipes to structures with clamps, brackets, and hangers.
  • Perform grouting and clearing of manholes.
  • Inspect, examine, and test installed systems and pipelines using pressure hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.
  • Perform any and all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Two to three years of related experience laying underground water lines, sanitary, or storm sewers required; three plus years preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Operate at professional construction sites, requiring verbal communication in person and over the telephone.
  • Read printed materials, signs, and directions.
  • Lift, push, pull, carry, handle, or feel objects, supplies, tools, machinery, and/or controls weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Reach with hands and arms; climb stairs and/or ladders; balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift overhead.
  • Navigate and perform activities on various construction sites safely, including traversing uneven surfaces.
  • Work outside, frequently for long periods, in all weather conditions, including extreme hot and cold temperatures.
  • Potential exposure to chemicals, vapors, pollutants, viruses, gases, uneven surfaces, loud noises, moving vehicles or machines, and dust/debris.

Schedule

This is a full-time position. Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
