Position Overview

What You Will Be Doing

  • Reads and deciphers work scope, engineered drawings, and PI&Ds to determine piping layouts and build methods.
  • Interprets bill of materials to ensure all assemblies align with material called out.
  • Layouts piping runs to targets and ensures proper fit-up to users and main tie-ins.
  • Prepares and fits up pipe spools for welders in compliance with technical publications and specifications.
  • Assembles piping in systems, bolts or otherwise fastens them to foundation, other structures, and equipment.
  • Works with welders, installation groups, and operation supervisors.
  • Performs work safely according to company and site safety standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Your Background

  • Proven work history fitting pipe for welders in spooling and targeting pipe layouts at final install.
  • Exceptional math skills related to pipe fitting/layout using tables, formulas, fitting charts, etc.
  • Able to both fit and connect process piping by means of welding, sweating, swaging, gluing, bolting, threading, clamping, etc.
  • Possesses a full range of mechanical knowledge and the ability to fabricate and install piping and equipment as specified in work instructions.
  • Work within assigned groups to move and position work pieces using overhead cranes, chain falls, jacks, and other material handling equipment.
  • Has excellent communication skills and a team player.
  • Strong customer service focus essential for success in this position.
  • Willing to work flexible hours including night shifts.
  • Able to work routine overtime.
  • Has all necessary hand tools to perform their discipline.
  • High school graduate with at least five years of pipe fitting experience.
  • Experience fitting and assembling piping per NAVSEA Technical Publication 278 is a plus.
  • OSHA/10 safety training required provided by Rhoads, having an up-to-date OSHA/10 a plus.

The Work Environment

The performance of this position involves exposure to construction or industrial areas where the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hard hats, and hearing protection is required.
