Physician (Urology)

About the role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and treat medical and surgical disorders using the most appropriate techniques in providing quality care.
• Responsible for initial evaluation and overall workups, history & physicals, and admission of Urologic surgery patients as needed.
• Perform Operating Room duties, including wide variety of standard Urologic surgical procedures and operations such as cystoscopy and fiberoptic cystoscopy.
• Conduct in-patient rounds, Emergency Room and Outpatient Clinics.
• Supervise residents and medical students rotating through the Urologic Surgery Service.
• Participate in Urologic surgery night call and perform emergency surgical procedures.
• Provide patients with education concerning their disease state and treatment regimen.
• Complete all electronic, clinical, daily charting and documentation required by the Medical Center in a timely manner as appropriate.
• Consult with Medical Center staff on many patient care issues.

Qualifications

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Board Certification in the Specialty/Sub-Specialty listed in the announcement is preferred.
