Physician - Urologist

About the role

The Urologist is expected to perform all services required in the practice of Urology in the context of the VA system and his/her clinical privileges.

Responsibilities

• Admit, evaluate, diagnose, treat (surgically or medically) and provide consultation for illnesses and injuries of the reproductive and genitourinary system and their contiguous structures.
• Evaluate the patient to assess any changes in the physical status, lab values, and vital signs of the patient prior to surgery. Write appropriate notes in the patient's medical records, specify times, dates, and sign them.
• Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations and pre-operative patient and Operating Room evaluations.
• Participate in various hospital committees, department, and hospital in-service programs and acquire CME's as required.
• Work effectively with patients, families, co-workers, and other health care professionals treating them with respect and dignity.
• Familiar with and adhere to the Medical Staff Bylaws of this facility.
• Comply with information security policy and procedures.
• Provide patient care appropriate to the cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturation needs of the adult and/or geriatric patient.
• Perform minor and major surgical procedures using the best available procedures and perform them at or above national statistical levels.
• Regularly follow up with postoperative patients, teach them, and manage wound care upon discharge orders in the chart in a timely manner.

Requirements

The Urologist must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. They must demonstrate the knowledge of the changes associated with aging and possess the ability to provide care based upon age-related factors as specified on the competence assessment checklist.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Residency in Urology Preferred Experience: Board Certified/Board Eligible preferred. Robotically trained with current robotic privileges preferred.
