Physician - Staff Psychiatrist
About the Role
The Staff Psychiatrist is primarily responsible for the overall psychiatric care delivered to enrolled Veterans at the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center. This includes diagnosing and treating psychiatric and/or behavioral problems, managing antipsychotic medications, providing consultative psychiatric services for other disciplines, collaborating with medical providers, clinical pharmacists, psychologists, and other interdisciplinary team members, and responding to psychiatric emergencies within the facility. Care may be provided on-site or remotely via telehealth.
The Mental Health Service Line (MHSL) comprises inpatient, outpatient, and residential programs where a Staff Psychiatrist may be assigned. While settings may differ, the core responsibilities remain consistent.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and treat psychiatric and behavioral problems in enrolled Veterans.
- Manage the use of antipsychotic medications.
- Provide consultative psychiatric services to other disciplines as needed.
- Collaborate with medical providers, clinical pharmacists, psychologists, and interdisciplinary treatment teams.
- Respond to psychiatric emergencies within the facility.
- Deliver psychiatric care on-site or remotely through telehealth.
