About the Role

The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking a Physician Specialist (Option D) for the Elgin Mental Health Center to practice as a medical specialist in psychiatry, providing services to mentally ill patients. This position ensures compliance with the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services certification standards and Joint Commission accreditation standards.

Responsibilities

• Practice as a medical specialist in psychiatry, providing services to mentally ill patients.
• Conduct patient evaluations, order and interpret laboratory tests, and perform other medical diagnostic and psychometric procedures.
• Complete psychiatric documentation and reports thoroughly and timely, including initial psychiatric evaluations, risk assessments, and progress notes.
• Evaluate, prepare, and attend court testimony regarding involuntary commitment, fitness to proceed, involuntary administration of medications, and other issues.
• Serve as an active and contributing member on assigned medical committees.
• Maintain compliance with Department and Center rules, policies, and procedures.
• Attend ongoing education programs, workshops, mandatory and optional in-service programs, and seminars to maintain age and disability-specific competency.
• Perform other duties as required or assigned within the scope of the role.

Qualifications

• Valid Illinois license to practice medicine with a specialty in Psychiatry and Neurology.
• One (1) year of professional experience evaluating the quality of specialized medical care and treatment for patients with mental illness.
• One (1) year of professional experience coordinating medical services with other professional disciplines and supportive personnel.
• One (1) year of professional experience conducting comprehensive psychiatric evaluations of patients.
• One (1) year of professional experience identifying and carrying out the most appropriate treatment options in accordance with best practices.
• One (1) year of professional experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
• One (1) year of professional experience preparing comprehensive and specialized medical records and reports.

Conditions of Employment

• Possession of a valid Illinois Controlled Substance License.
• Possession of a valid United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license.

Pay

Anticipated Salary: \$18,908 - \$26,486 per month (\$226,896 - \$317,832 per year).
