About the role

The position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret in-house and home sleep studies
  • Manage patients with sleep disorders in the outpatient setting
  • Support the Pulmonary and Critical Care activities of the Section, including providing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care for patients with Pulmonary diseases
  • Perform fiberoptic bronchoscopy procedures, including endoscopic ultrasound
  • Supervise Medical and Surgical patients in a combined intensive care unit
  • Supervise fellows, residents, and medical students
  • Develop and engage in clinical research
  • Have clinical responsibilities to the Medical Service, including periodic service as preceptor to third year medical students, and additional ad hoc clinical, teaching, and administrative assignments as may be required by the Chief of the Medical Service

Requirements

This position requires outstanding clinical, teaching, and interpersonal skills. The Brooklyn Campus of NYHHS is a major teaching affiliate of State University of New York Downstate Medical Center, and the successful candidate will be appointed at SUNY Downstate at an academic level commensurate with their experience.

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Passes pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participates in the seasonal influenza vaccination program.
