About the role
A Summary Physician for the Phoenix Indian Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ, who will provide full-scope, independent rheumatology care to adult and adolescent patients, and serve as a clinical authority and consultant for complex autoimmune, musculoskeletal, and connective tissue disease cases.
Responsibilities
- Conducts comprehensive patient evaluations, including complete history and physical examination, review of prior medical records, and formulation of differential diagnoses.
- Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic studies, laboratory panels, and imaging relevant to rheumatologic conditions, integrating findings into a definitive treatment plan.
- Performs indicated procedures, including joint and soft tissue injections, aspirations, and other privileged interventional techniques within the scope of rheumatology practice.
- Serves as the primary rheumatology consultant for Phoenix Indian Medical Center (PIMC) medical staff and field hospitals and health centers throughout the Phoenix Area Indian Health Service (IHS).
- Participates in teaching activities for medical staff, nurse practitioners, clinical pharmacists, and other physician extenders across relevant specialty areas.
- Performs medically related or patient care assignments that fall outside the designated rheumatology specialty area when directed by clinical leadership on an emergency or contingency basis.
Requirements
- Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada.
- Licensure: Current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
- Graduate Training: At least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.
- Board Certification: Preferred, not required.

- 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position or equivalent experience and training.
