About the role
The VA St. Louis Health Care System is recruiting for a Full-time Staff Pathologist at the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service, specifically within the John Cochran Division.
Responsibilities
- Interpreting clinical laboratory data and communicating conclusions effectively with providers, residents, and students
- Providing consultation to providers when appropriate
- Performing gross and microscopic examination with sign out of surgical and cytological cases and providing reports in a timely manner
- Performing frozen sections and gross intraoperative interpretations as needed
- Participating in quality-control and quality management programs including proficiency assessments, secondary and tertiary reviews, and quality improvement processes within the service for optimal patient care and to meet regulatory and accreditation requirements
- Possibly representing the laboratory at functions or committees such as tumor conference, transfusion review, and others as assigned
- Taking calls, usually one week at a time, on a rotating schedule
- Possibly participating in planning laboratory operations and new initiatives
- Assisting in training and supervision of residents, fellows, and other trainees
- Participating in laboratory outreach programs to other VA and non-VA institutions as needed
- Supporting the VA mission and ICARE values
Requirements
- Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State - Territory - or Commonwealth of the United States - or in the District of Columbia
- Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
- Experience and/or fellowship training in FNA-Cytopathology, Surgical Pathology, and/or other subspecialty of Anatomic Pathology / Clinical Pathology preferred
Qualifications
- Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship, Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery, Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine, Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
