Physician - Pulmonologist

About the role

The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. Responsibilities

• Diagnose and manage acute and chronic respiratory illnesses, such as asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis, and lung cancer
• Interpret and perform pulmonary procedures, such as bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, and pulmonary functions tests
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care, including consultative services for other physicians and specialty input for complex cases
• Manage and monitor patients requiring mechanical ventilation and advanced respiratory support
• Participate in sleep disorder evaluations and management (if qualified in sleep medicine)
• Order, interpret, and act on diagnostic imaging and laboratory tests as related to pulmonary disease
• Educate Veterans and their families about respiratory diseases, treatment options, and preventive measures
• Mentor medical trainees (where applicable)
• Adhere to VA policies and procedures regarding documentation, patient safety, and utilization

Requirements

Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.
