This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services, National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.

Responsibilities

Duties involve providing direct service in a clinical setting and specialized medical practice within the field of emerging and zoonotic infectious diseases.

Requirements

• Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada, accredited by a recognized accrediting body at the time the degree was obtained. (Transcripts required)
• OR a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school, with evidence of equivalency demonstrated by:
  • Permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates,
  • A fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country,
  • OR successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. (Transcripts required)
• Current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. (Proof of license required)
• At least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, such as a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or institution accredited for such training. Graduate training programs must be approved by recognized accrediting bodies in the United States or Canada, including:
  • Internship programs involving broadly based clinical practice (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics), accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
  • Residency programs in a specialized field of medicine, accredited by the American Medical Association (AMA), American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or ACGME.
  • Fellowship programs involving advanced training (beyond residency) in a clinical or research setting, accredited in the United States.
• For GS-13 level: 3 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.

Federal employees must provide documentation (e.g., signed memorandum from supervisor, SF-50, or SF-52) for experience not part of their official series and grade level.

Experience includes paid and unpaid work, such as volunteer experience through national service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) or other organizations. Part-time experience must include the average number of hours worked per week and the beginning and ending dates.
