Physician-Primary Care (Sarpy County VA Clinic)

About the role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Responsibilities

• Deliver primary care to patients enrolled at the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System.
• Manage scheduled and unscheduled patients in the outpatient clinic setting.
• Work closely and coordinate patient care with other PACT teamlet members including nursing, clerical pharmacy, social worker, dietitian, etc.
• Participate in daily huddles with other teamlet staff and primary care systems redesign projects.
• Manage a panel of patients under Primary Care Management Model (PCMM) guidelines.
• Supervise or collaborate with primary care mid-level providers.
• Provide clinical oversight and participate in peer review of other primary care providers through periodic chart reviews.
• Act as a surrogate for absent primary care providers when needed, including reviewing CPRS view alerts.
• Regularly attend primary care staff meetings, departmental meetings, and medical staff meetings.
• Timely documentation (notes and encounter forms) is necessary in all areas in accordance with facility policy.
• Complete administrative work in a timely manner.

Requirements

• Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the United States.
• Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Experience in Family Practice, Women's Health, or Internal Medicine preferred.
• Ability to walk, stand, or sit for periods of up to or beyond 10 to 12 hours each day, bend, lift, and turn.

Qualifications

• Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
• Completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
