Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.
Qualifications
- To qualify for this position - you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement.
- Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
- Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Basic Requirements
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
- The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Current - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State - Territory - or Commonwealth of the United States - or in the District of Columbia.
- Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training - approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Preferred Experience
- 1 year of Primary Care experience.
Physical Requirements
- The work requires standing or walking for a major portion of the work day.
- Physical requirements could consist of a variety of standing - walking - twisting - turning - sitting - bending - pushing - carrying and light lifting.
Major Duties
- Manages chronic conditions - evaluates and treats inter-current medical conditions.
- Collaborates with a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) to provide accessible - comprehensive - coordinated - continuous care to an assigned panel of patients.
- Performs a variety of disease prevention related activities including gender and age specific screenings - mental health screenings - and health promotion activities.
- Screens for - evaluates and treats uncomplicated common mental health disorders - including depression and common addictions - with referrals made to mental health providers for further evaluation and treatment as appropriate.
- Primary care physicians will have responsibility for supervision of or collaboration with primary care mid-level providers.
- Physicians are expected to provide clinical oversight and to participate in peer review of other primary care providers through periodic chart reviews.
- Physicians will act as surrogates for absent primary care providers when needed - to include review of CPRS view alerts.
- Primary care physicians will regularly attend primary care staff meetings - departmental meetings and medical staff meetings.
- Timely documentation (notes and encounter forms) is necessary in all areas in accordance with facility policy.
- All administrative work should be completed in a timely fashion.
- Clinical reminders should be addressed as medically appropriate.
- Quality of care should meet professional standards at all times.

Pay
