Physician (Primary Care) Manchester NH VAMC - Full-time - Recruitment Incentive/ EDRP Authorized

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.

Qualifications

• To qualify for this position - you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement.
• Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
• Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
• Current - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State - Territory - or Commonwealth of the United States - or in the District of Columbia.
• Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Preferred Experience

• Board Certification in ABIM (Internal Medicine) or ABFP (Family Medicine/ Practice) preferred.
• BLS/ACLS.

Physical Requirements

• Applicants must meet physical standards for the position.
• A physical examination prior to placement is required.

Duties

• Provides direct care to patients in the Primary Care department.
• Provides clinical guidance to PA's and others as requested.
• Participates in interdisciplinary team activities to achieve optimum quality of patient care that is maintained or improved.
• Participates in the progressive improvement of the service delivery which may include programmatic participation in initiatives within the facility.
• Evaluates the patient to assess changes in the physical and mental status.
• Writes a progress note in the patient's chart.
• Coordinates with providers within their own and outside of their own Service Line - at the other divisions within the Manchester VA structure and the CBOC Clinics as determined by the plan of care for the veteran.
• Engages in open - clear - and collaborative manner.
• Fosters positive working relationships with staff - peers - and Veterans.
• Performs patient evaluations - orders - and interprets diagnostic blood and fluid tests and imaging studies as indicated.
• Ensures medical care as appropriate.
• Ensures staff within Primary Care are appropriately credentialed and privileged.
• Participates in various hospital committees - departmental and hospital in-service programs - and education programs of the department and the hospital.
• Is involved in continuous quality improvement through the peer review and FPPE/OPPE process.
• Participates in compliance readiness activities as requested by Chief of Primary Care - Quality Management and the Chief of Staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Exercises corporate citizenship by serving as a leader and/or active member on Medical Center committees as requested and attends Medical Service Staff meetings and meetings of the Medical/Dental staff.
• Teaches effectively and creatively and provides guidance to others involved in the delivery of Primary Care - related educational programs.
• Maintains Basic Life Support and completes all mandatory training by due date.

Work Schedule

The tours of duty are Monday through Friday with variable hours. These details will be discussed during the interview process, especially in relation to any executive orders or short-term assignments.
