About the role
CoreCivic is currently seeking a Physician who have a passion for providing the highest quality care in an institutional setting. The Primary Care Physician is responsible for providing comprehensive primary healthcare services to incarcerated individuals within a correctional facility.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough medical evaluations, physical examinations, and medical histories for incarcerated individuals
- Diagnose and treat a wide range of acute and chronic illnesses, injuries, and infections
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, prescribing appropriate medications, therapies, and interventions
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, such as pharmaceuticals, laboratory work, radiological examinations, and screenings
- Provide vaccinations, perform health screenings, and promote preventive care measures within the correctional population
- Basic technical skills such as suturing, splinting and injections
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including patient histories, diagnoses, treatments, and medications administered
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, dentists, social workers, and other correctional staff, to ensure coordinated and integrated healthcare delivery
- Communicate effectively with healthcare team members, providing necessary information, consultations, and referrals
- Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance the overall healthcare delivery system
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in primary care, correctional medicine, and relevant healthcare regulations
- Engage in continuous professional development activities
- Provide training and education to correctional staff on primary healthcare topics, as needed
Requirements
- Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution
- Current and unrestricted medical license to practice medicine in the state/jurisdiction where the correctional facility is located and DEA
- Valid state identification
- Experience in primary care, preferably with experience in correctional medicine or working with underserved populations
- Strong diagnostic and clinical skills, with the ability to manage a diverse range of acute and chronic medical conditions
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
- Ability to work effectively in a challenging and dynamic environment
