About the role
The North Florida/ South Georgia VA Healthcare System's Surgical Care Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic board-certified Plastic Surgeon. Ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program. You must be an excellent communicator and team player who is adaptable to the needs of a growing medical center.
Responsibilities
- Performing general plastic and hand surgery including face and hand trauma, elective hand surgery, skin cancer, breast reconstruction, and local flaps.
- Admit, evaluate, diagnose, and perform surgical procedures for patients presenting with both congenital and acquired defects.
- Examining patient's and assessing any deformity or illness
- Applying appropriate reconstructive, cosmetic and corrective medical treatments
- Performing various non-invasive treatments
- Maintaining confidentiality of all patient information according to federal guidelines and regulations
- Conducting Clinic - consults, minor procedures, returns, post op appointments
- Calling - divided equally among faculty
- Conducting procedures at Malcom Randall VA Medical Center; OR ambulatory surgery center is located in Lake City, but travel not mandatory
- Supervision of plastic surgery residents and fellows, general surgery residents, medical students, nursing staff, and ARNP's on site.

Qualifications
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- License and Registration: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training (Plastic Surgery) program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR
