About the Role

The Division of Epilepsy within the Department of Neurology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center seeks a board-eligible or certified epileptologist. This role involves acute, chronic, and tertiary care of epilepsy patients, EEG interpretation, electrocorticography, and evaluation of patients for epilepsy surgery, including stereo EEG, intra- and extraoperative functional brain mapping, and neurostimulation (VNS/RNS/DBS). Responsibilities also include managing the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU). Dedicated clinical, administrative, and nursing support is provided.

Department and Division Overview

The Department of Neurology at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) comprises 15 specialized divisions, 63 physicians, 5 psychologists, 12 dedicated research faculty, 24 residents, and 14 fellows. The department delivers subspecialty care across 7 state-of-the-art ambulatory facilities and 3 hospitals, operating 27 multidisciplinary clinics, 3 inpatient consultation services, an 18-bed neurocritical care unit, a 30-bed stroke ward, and an expanding teleneurology service partnering with 7 regional hospitals. The telestroke network is among the nation’s largest, encompassing 32 affiliated hospitals.

With over $15.5 million in annual research funding, OSU Neurology focuses on neurogenetics, neuroimmunology, and neuroregenerative medicine. The department conducts over 320 clinical trials annually, supported by a cutting-edge biorepository and brain bank. It offers 10 clinical fellowships and international training opportunities through the OSU Global Neurology Initiative.

The Division of Epilepsy includes 7 physicians, 3 advanced practice providers (APPs), 3 epilepsy nurses, and 1-2 epilepsy fellows annually. The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s Comprehensive Epilepsy Center is a NAEC-accredited Level 4 epilepsy center, providing state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment services. Subspecialty clinics include functional seizures, neurostimulation (RNS/DBS/VNS), women’s epilepsy, and epilepsy surgery. A new 8-10 bed adult EMU with advanced technology is slated to open next year. Research at the Epilepsy Center has contributed to new antiseizure medications, presurgical evaluation innovations, and advancements in treating women with epilepsy.

Responsibilities

• Provide acute, chronic, and tertiary care for epilepsy patients.
• Interpret EEGs, including ICU EEG reading and electrocorticography.
• Evaluate patients for epilepsy surgery, including stereo EEG, intra- and extraoperative functional brain mapping, and neurostimulation (VNS/RNS/DBS).
• Manage the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU).
• Conduct outpatient epilepsy clinics.
• Teach medical students, residents, fellows, and trainees in clinical neurology and epileptology.

Requirements

• M.D. or D.O. equivalent degree.
• Board-eligible or certified in Neurology and Epilepsy.
• Expertise in acute, chronic, and tertiary care of epilepsy patients, EEG interpretation, electrocorticography, and evaluation for epilepsy surgery (including stereo EEG, functional brain mapping, and neurostimulation).
