Physician - Ophthalmologist

About the role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Responsibilities

• Treatments include, but are not limited to: cataract surgery, diabetic retinopathy laser therapy, glaucoma treatment, and macular degeneration injections.
• Provide direct patient care to include, but are not limited to: history and physicals, medication management, evaluation of diagnostic tests and treatment planning, surgery, and clinical reminder completion as applicable.
• Document all medical information in an electronic medical record.
• Participate in Process Improvement/Quality Assurance projects and participate in bi-annual Medical Staff activity including committee participation.
• General oversight of the operations of the Ophthalmology Clinic including but not limited to providing efficient patient management.

• This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until July 13th, 2026. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be May 18th, 2026, with subsequent cut-off dates every 5 days. Qualifications

• To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement.
• Basic Requirements:
• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible ophthalmologist, seeking Comprehensive Eye Surgeons that either already do MIGS implants or are willing to obtain MIGS certification and/or have Glaucoma Fellowship training.
