About the role

The Central Alabama Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHCS) located in Tuskegee, AL is seeking a BE/BC Internal Medicine/Family Medicine Physician or completion of a Geriatric Fellowship to serve as the Medical Director of the Nursing Home-Community Living Center (NHCLC).

Responsibilities

  • Provides comprehensive assessment, diagnostic work-up and clinic intervention, including comprehensive patient assessment, health history, physical examination, and patient education.
  • Functs as an integral part of NHCLC multi-disciplinary team to coordinate, facilitate, and provide patient care and services.
  • Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings to establish a diagnosis and initiate appropriate response to emergency health problems.
  • Initiates appropriate referrals and consultations to other clinical services.
  • Orders and evaluates diagnostic tests as appropriate, recommends treatment and/or referral.
  • Validates the effectiveness of previously implemented medical treatment.
  • Initiates, evaluates, and changes orders for medication.
  • Includes patient and family in planning care and establishing realistic measurable goals for health maintenance/improvement.
  • Records/documents health appraisal information, clinical assessments, treatment decisions, plan of care, ongoing management and therapeutic outcomes, order medications, diagnostic tests and referral consultations where needed for every patient encounter, recording will be accomplished using the electronic comprehensive patient record system (CPRS), and will be completed on the day of the encounter.
  • Responds to computerized "alert" indicating diagnostic test abnormalities and to health line requests from veterans/family members on the day of receipt (weekends excepted).
  • Works effectively with patients, families, members of the multi-disciplinary team, and other CAVHCS staff.
  • Follows Performance Measures guidelines, including completion of clinical reminders in CPRS, access and timelines standards, prescriptions order entry, National VA formulary requirements, and customer service standards.

Qualifications

  • Citizen of the United States.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Board eligibility or board certification in Internal Medicine/Family Medicine or completion of a Geriatric Fellowship is required. Geriatric Fellowship is preferred.
  • Pre-placement physical examination completed prior to appointment to determine physical and mental fitness for candidates for appointment in VA.
  • Must provide complete credentials and privileging information in a timely expeditious way.
  • English language proficiency required.

Pay

Up to $210,000 per year

Schedule

Full Time. 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Monday - Friday). On-call if required, alternating one week on and one off.
