Physician -Neurologist

About the role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Responsibilities

• Performs all services required in the practice of Neurology in the context of the VA system and his/her clinical privileges.
• Provides direct patient-centered care as delineated in the list of clinical privileges for Neurology.
• Provides comprehensive general neurological care to outpatients, including patient history, neurological examination, diagnosis, follow-up as needed, medical record documentation according to standard and acceptable practices.
• Assimilates the results of diagnostic studies (i.e., EMG, EEG) into the formulation of a differential diagnosis and treatment plan.
• Works collaboratively with other specialists and Primary Care PACT teams to ensure patients receive continuous quality care.
• Prescribes medications according to federal and state law.
• Oversees all aspects of neurologic care delivered to their assigned patients.
• Performs neurologic procedures, such as NCS/EMG, EEG interpretation, and/or Botox administration, commensurate to his/her individual training and expertise, in accordance with local VA credentialing and privileging requirements.
• Provides education to other physicians and healthcare professionals regarding neurological disorders and their treatments.
• Provides education, supervision, and mentoring to Medical students, residents, and fellows in neurological disorders and their treatments.
• Participates in inpatient, outpatient subspecialty duties as assigned, including on-call assignments.

Requirements

The Neurologist is expected to perform all services required in the practice of Neurology in the context of the VA system and his/her clinical privileges; and provide appropriate documentation in the electronic record.

Qualifications

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Education: Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Schedule

Tour of duty is expected to be Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Night and weekend call shared with other Physicians will be required. Alternate schedules may be necessary to meet the needs of the organization and as Veteran needs arise.
