Physician - Medical Director

About the role

The position involves serving as the Medical Director for the hospital-employed Anesthesiology group at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System. The ideal candidate must be board certified in Anesthesiology, have a minimum of 7 years clinical and 3 years leadership experience, and oversee a group of 34 employed anesthesiologists and 100+ anesthetists.

Responsibilities

• Oversee a team of 34 employed anesthesiologists and 100+ anesthetists in a collaborative care team model
• Medical Direction up to 1:4 across multiple campuses including SMC – Church Street Campus, SMC – Mary Black Campus, and PMC – Pelham Medical Center
• Manage a case mix that includes general, plastics, orthopedic, urology, neuro, thoracic, regional anesthesia, and pediatrics (primarily healthy)
• Lead a team of 19,000+ cases annually, 3,800+ deliveries annually, and 23 state-of-the-art operating rooms
• Handle off-site services such as MRI and IR
• Handle in-house call for night and weekend coverage at SMC – Church Street Campus
• Handle nights and weekends home call coverage at SMC – Mary Black Campus and PMC – Pelham Medical Center
• Handle evenings and weekends home call coverage at CMC – Cherokee Medical Center

Requirements

The successful candidate must be board certified in Anesthesiology, have a minimum of 7 years clinical and 3 years leadership experience, and possess a strong track record leading a hospital-employed anesthesia group.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have:

• A minimum of 7 years clinical experience in Anesthesiology
• A minimum of 3 years of leadership experience in Anesthesiology
• Experience managing a hospital-employed anesthesia group
• Proven ability to lead a collaborative care team
• Experience overseeing a large case mix including general, plastics, orthopedic, urology, neuro, thoracic, regional anesthesia, and pediatrics (primarily healthy)
