Core Responsibilities

  • Provide internal medicine care for adult patients ages 18 and older with acute and chronic conditions.
  • Examine, diagnose, treat, and prescribe appropriate courses of treatment within scope of training, experience, and privileges.
  • Manage comprehensive patient care including post-discharge follow-up, urgent/acute needs, chronic disease management, and medication management.
  • Diagnostics, Referrals, and Care Coordination: Order diagnostic tests and interpret results as appropriate. Approve/disapprove subspecialty referrals and request consultations or referrals to appropriate specialists/clinics/resources as indicated. Provide telephone consult support with assistance of clinic staff. Refill prescriptions and manage ongoing treatment plans and preventive care needs.
  • Access to Care & Panel Management: May serve as a Primary Care Manager (PCM) for an empanelment. Meet access standards of at minimum: 50 bookable face-to-face and 15 telemedicine appointments per week; or 63 bookable face-to-face appointments per week if telemedicine is not available. Panel and booking standards may be adjusted based on Graduate Medical Education (GME) requirements when applicable.
  • Emergency Response & Clinical Readiness: Provide immediate evaluation and management of emergency problems as they occur. Maintain readiness to respond to emergent clinical situations consistent with facility protocols.
  • Teaching, Training, and Professional Support: Direct, perform, or assist in the instruction of other healthcare professionals within granted privileges. Provide educational lectures and participate in in-service training to clinic staff members. Demonstrate technical proficiency in directing and teaching other medical staff in accordance with Government and professional clinical standards and accepted protocols.

Requirements

  • Education: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.). Graduate of an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada (or foreign equivalent meeting U.S. equivalency requirements such as ECFMG certification, Fifth Pathway, or USMLE completion as applicable).
  • Internship/Residency: Successful completion of an internship and Internal Medicine residency approved by ACGME or the AOA (or recognized U.S./Canada accrediting equivalent).
  • Experience: At least one (1) year of supervised clinical experience providing direct patient care (internship or first year of residency).
  • Board Certification: Board Certified in Internal Medicine or eligible to test for Board Certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).
  • Licensure/Privileging: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice medicine as required in the Task Order. Must meet privileging requirements per the most current version of AFI 44-119, Medical Quality Operations.

Screening Requirements

  • Privilingging applications may require screening through NPDB/HIPDB and applicable exclusion/sanction lists (e.g., DHHS OIG exclusions and TRICARE sanction listing) prior to clinical practice.
