Physician (Inpatient Psychiatry)

About the role

The West Palm Beach VA Healthcare System's Mental Health Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Psychiatrist. Ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards - as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program. You must be an excellent communicator and team player who is adaptable to the needs of a growing medical center.

Responsibilities

• Conducts inpatient psychiatric evaluations - consultations - group therapy/treatment in an inpatient setting
• Provide treatment across the full spectrum of DSM 5 diagnoses
• Modalities of care include face-to-face interventions as well as telemental health (TMH)
• Provide cross coverage to other clinical sites throughout the West Palm Beach VA Health Care System via telemental health as needed
• Responsible for providing psychiatric care for mental health services - identifying Veterans' mental and medical health needs and designing diagnostic and therapeutic plans to meet these needs
• Serve as the medical subject matter expert within their assigned team
• Care is provided in accordance with VA/DoD Clinical Practice Guidelines as measured by the Peer Review Program and various quality metrics
• Provide on-call and on-duty as assigned during WHEN (Weekend - Holiday - Evening - Nights) hours

Requirements

To qualify for this position - you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Qualifications

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
• Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine
• The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
• Current - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State - Territory - or Commonwealth of the United States - or in the District of Columbia
• Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training - approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
