About the role

Serve as a General Surgeon with Cheyenne Veterans Health Care System. Evaluating, diagnosing, consulting, performing surgical procedures and providing pre and postoperative surgical care for our veterans and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Privileges to evaluate, diagnose, consult, provide pre, intra- and postoperative surgical care and perform surgical procedures
  • Conditions, illnesses and injuries of the alimentary tract, abdomen and its contents (except as specified in Additional Privileges)
  • Hernia Repair- Breasts, skin and soft tissue (except as specified in Additional Privileges)
  • Head and neck including trauma, endocrine, congenital, and oncologic disorders
  • Insertion and management of chest tubes, central venous catheters and arterial catheters
  • Tracheostomy
  • Paracentesis, thoracentesis
  • Hand surgery for minor infections
  • Use of fluoroscopy equipment (or supervision of other staff using the equipment)
  • Diagnostics Laparoscopy
  • Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, Herniorrhaphy, and Appendectomy
  • Administration of Moderate Sedation (In accordance with Policy & Directive requirements)
  • Endoscopy procedures
  • Breast biopsy with sonographic guidance
  • Insertion and management of pulmonary artery catheters

Qualifications

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Board Certified American Board of Surgery- for General Surgeons

Requirements

  • Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
