Responsibilities

  • Convey updates to medical staff for entry into the USMEPCOM-specific applicant database.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and Privacy Act standards, including those set by USMEPCOM, the Department of Defense, and applicable service regulations.
  • Conduct thorough medical record reviews, histories, and physical examinations per Department of Defense standards; evaluate lab results, ensure accurate profiling, and coordinate with consultants and Service waiver authorities.
  • Evaluate diagnostic test results conducted by the MEPS medical department to identify potential disqualifying conditions.
  • Perform comprehensive in-person medical histories for applicants who have completed the prescreening process and received authorization to proceed.
  • Assess applicants for injuries, deformities, defects, and disorders across all body systems, including dental, psychiatric, and behavioral, and conduct a standardized orthopedic-neurological exam.
  • Determine the need for further physical examination of identified problem areas.
  • Directly inform applicants of abnormal findings through personal consultation or written communication.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has been designated as non-sensitive and requires a personnel security investigation.
  • Degree: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicant's graduation.
  • Graduate Training: At least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting after obtaining the degree.
  • Licensure: Permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Credentials: Must have required credentials reviewed and initial medical services appointment made by the Headquarters, United States Military Entrance Processing Command prior to a final job offer.
  • Occasional shift work (before 0600 or after 1800 hours) may be required.
  • May require working occasional weekends.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP)/Drug Testing position; subject to pre-employment screening and random testing.
  • Successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training is required within 30 days of on-boarding.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • Must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • One-year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • One-year supervisory probationary period may be required.
  • Direct Deposit of Pay is required.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must meet the experience and education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Basic Requirement

  • Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada accredited by a recognized accrediting body at the time the degree was obtained. Foreign medical degrees must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States, demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
  • Licensure: Current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Graduate Training: At least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting (e.g., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in an accredited hospital or institution).

Additional Qualification Requirements

  • Experience/Training: 3 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.

Foreign Education

If using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization specializing in interpretation of foreign education programs and deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program, or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
