About the Role
The physician is responsible for the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of health problems presented by patients.
Responsibilities
- Develop and cultivate positive and productive working relationships with Corewell Health personnel, promoting a culture of safety, teamwork, compassion, collaboration, clarity, curiosity, and courage.
- Demonstrate a commitment to service and distinctive, personalized care for both internal and external customers while striving to exceed expectations.
- Assist in meeting operational, financial, and patient satisfaction goals.
- Complete all specific competencies and annual organizational mandatories in a timely manner.
- Assess and monitor the medical needs of patients, providing quality medical services in a cost-effective and appropriate manner while ensuring coverage of caseload at all times.
- Communicate regularly with patients’ families, referring physicians, specialists, nursing staff, and other hospital departments regarding the plan of care and treatment of patients, including within 24 hours of admission, for any major change in a patient’s condition, and within 24 hours prior to discharge.
- Document medical services in the patient’s medical record consistent with hospital, payor, and regulatory standards.
- Participate in on-call and weekend coverage as required by the Department.
- Participate in value-based reimbursement programs and quality initiatives as required by the Department.
- Engage in Quality Improvement (QI) / Quality Assurance (QA) and peer review activities as requested.
- Assist in the development of policies and procedures related to medical practice and quality patient care.
- Participate in ongoing process improvement activities, including the development and application of clinical paths and related initiatives.
- Support patient participation in clinical trials and research projects, assessing clinical safety and efficacy data consistent with Research Institute policies.
- Provide oversight, teaching, and mentorship to fellows, residents, advanced practice providers (APPs), students, and others, including meaningful participation with affiliated medical schools as requested.
Requirements
- Doctorate degree (MD or DO) required.
- LIC-Physician (MD) or LIC-Osteopathic Physician (DO) – State of Michigan (upon hire).
- DEA Registration – State of Michigan (upon hire).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification – AHA or ARC (within 120 days).
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification – AHA (within 120 days).
Physical Demands
- Lifting: Seldom up to 50 lbs (pallet to waist, waist to waist), up to 10 lbs (waist to chest), up to 5 lbs (waist to overhead).
- Carrying: Seldom up to 25 lbs (bilateral), up to 10 lbs (unilateral).
- Pushing/Pulling: Occasionally up to 25 lbs (pushing), up to 20 lbs (pulling).
- Postures: Occasionally sitting, frequently standing/walking, occasionally forward bend (standing/sitting), occasionally trunk rotation (standing/sitting), seldom squatting/crawling/kneeling.
- Reach: Occasionally above shoulder, occasionally at or below shoulder.
- Handling: Occasionally, with forceful grip (>5 lbs) or pinch (>2 lbs).
- Finger/Hand Dexterity: Frequently.
- Visual Acuity: Seldom required.
