Physician- Family Medicine Faculty GME

About the Role

University of Maryland Capital Region Health is seeking an enthusiastic Family Medicine Physician to join our Family Medicine Residency Program as a Faculty Physician in Largo, Maryland. This role offers the opportunity to practice medicine while shaping the next generation of physicians through teaching, mentoring, and leadership. You will balance clinical responsibilities with educational duties, influencing residents as they grow into confident, independent physicians.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and teach Family Medicine residents in inpatient and ambulatory settings.
• Serve as a mentor and advisor for residents’ clinical and professional development.
• Develop and deliver lectures, participate in conferences, clinical discussions, rounds, journal clubs, and peer reviews.
• Provide formal and informal resident evaluations with actionable feedback.
• Contribute to curriculum development, implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement.
• Participate in resident recruitment, including interviewing and selecting future residents.
• Collaborate with residents on scholarly activities while modeling lifelong learning.
• Serve on the Clinical Competency Committee.
• Partner with the Program Director, Chief Residents, GME leadership, and faculty to advance program goals.
• Engage in faculty development to grow your skills as a clinician and educator.
• Participate in hospital committees and Graduate Medical Education meetings.
• Maintain an active clinical practice, including:
  • Dedicated independent patient-care time of at least one half-day per week without residents or students.
  • Precepting Family Medicine residents for up to five half-day sessions per week.
  • Approximately 20% inpatient service coverage.
  • Providing safe, high-quality, patient-centered care in collaboration with the healthcare team.
• Help residents develop critical thinking, communication, teamwork, leadership, and compassion.
• Model professionalism and guide residents in working with healthcare teams, patients, families, and communities.
• Contribute to the development and review of rotation-specific goals, program aims, policies, and elective rotations.

Requirements

• Hold an unrestricted Maryland medical license.
• Hold a valid DEA certificate.
• Meet requirements for active membership in good standing on the UM Capital Region Health Medical Staff.
• Qualified by training and experience in Family Medicine.
• Meet ACGME requirements for Family Medicine faculty.
• Current certification as a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine or American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians.
• Maintain professional memberships, including the American Academy of Family Physicians, Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, and Maryland Academy of Family Physicians.
