About the role
The Tucson VA Medical Center is recruiting for a Full-Time - Permanent Physician (Endocrinology) and reports directly to the Assistant Chief of Medicine Service.
Responsibilities
- Commitment to excellence in patient care and an interest in teaching are essential.
- A record of contribution to the scientific literature is preferred - as is a willingness to participate in clinical trials.
- The Tucson VA is a tertiary care facility providing a full range of clinical services including complex coronary angioplasty - electrophysiology - TAVR and other structural heart procedures - cardiac surgery - neurosurgery and Mohs surgery.
- We are in a growth area for the VASAVACHS is the principal teaching affiliate of the University of Arizona Colleges of Medicine - Nursing - and Pharmacy.
- Candidates must be eligible for a faculty appointment with the University of Arizona commensurate with clinical experience and academic achievement in order to facilitate teaching of medical students - residents and fellows.
- All our division members participate in outpatient clinic services including trainees clinics and in the inpatient consult service.
- The incumbent is expected to actively participate in quality improvement activities and comply with rules and regulations of the agency - facility and department.
- The incumbent will also support a satisfactory process for supervision and training of fellows - residents and medical students from University of Arizona College of Medicine rotating through the Endocrinology Division.
- Like all Medicine service line members - the candidate must maintain American Heart Association BLS certification.
- A commitment to compliance with VA and SAVAHCS regulatory requirements is expected.
- Investigators with VA Merit Review Awards are afforded up to thirty-five percent protected time for research.
Requirements
- Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
- Physicians must have completed residency training - approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as ""Physician Resident Providers"" (PRPs).
- Surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs.
- In rare and unusual circumstances - the Facility Director can submit a memo to the VISN Director through the VISN Chief Medical Officer - who may approve requests for reasonable exceptions to the residency training requirement for Physicians whose composite record of experience - accomplishments - performance - and qualifications warrant such action.

- To qualify for this position - you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement.
- Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
