About the role

The Emergency Medicine Staff Physician position is available for a PRN day or night shift in Albuquerque, New Mexico, joining the School of Medicine team at UNM.

Responsibilities

  • Provides and manages direct health care for a specified patient population under indirect supervision.
  • Observes, assesses, and records symptoms, reactions, and progress.
  • Supervises, advises, and trains clinical professionals and/or students in area of expertise.
  • Knows current principles, methods, and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment in area of expertise.
  • Knows legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care.
  • Knows relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and can prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage.
  • Knows community medical diagnostic and patient care services in area of medical expertise.
  • Maintains quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
  • Develops and presents educational programs and/or workshops.
  • Knowledgeable about related accreditation and certification requirements.
  • Works both independently and in a team environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Requirements

  • Medical doctor with 3 to 5 years of directly related experience which may include residency in a directly related medical specialty.
  • State of New Mexico and Federal DEA Certification.
  • Medical Specialty License or Certification.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in specified area of medical specialty.

Qualifications

Verification of education and licensure (if applicable) will be required if selected for hire.

About the Emergency Medicine Team with UNM School of Medicine

The University of New Mexico, Department of Emergency Medicine, is seeking on-call physicians to support the EM residency program and provide clinical care in both academic and community hospital facilities.

The Department of Emergency Medicine has 72 full-time and part-time attending physicians, and is home to an outstanding EM Residency, EMS Academy, and Center for Disaster Medicine.

UNM Health System is New Mexico's only Level I Trauma Center, UNM Children’s Hospital, home to the only Burn Center, and the state's first Comprehensive Stroke Center.
