Physician Emergency Medicine

About the Role

Examines, diagnoses, and treats acute and chronic medical conditions in emergency settings across Madras, Prineville, and Redmond. Develops evidence-based treatment plans, provides compassionate care addressing social determinants of health, and maintains accurate electronic health records.

Schedule

• Variable shift lengths with a 1.0 FTE defined as 1,440 hours per contract year (120 hours per month).
• Shifts split between day, swing, and night.
• Call coverage required; physician must be available to come in for surges or coverage of ill colleagues. Call pay included in contract.
• Weekend, holiday, and night coverage required by staffing needs.

Responsibilities

Clinical Expectations

• Diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, and disorders within Emergency Medicine.
• Manage acute and emergent medical conditions, including lacerations and fracture care.
• Provide patient education and promote wellness.
• Perform minor surgical procedures.
• Analyze reports, findings, and diagnostic images.
• Coordinate on-site and referral-based medical services.
• Order tests, prescribe drugs, therapies, or other treatments.
• Document patient care accurately and timely in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
• Promote coordinated care and illness prevention.
• Collaborate with other physicians and caregivers for optimal patient care.
• Available to furnish patient care throughout assigned shift in the emergency department.
• Must work in a single-coverage Emergency Department environment and rotate between three locations while maintaining credentials at all facilities.

Administrative Expectations

• Document all patient care in the EMR and complete tasks to comply with health system policies and regulatory agencies for accurate billing.
• Familiarity with organizational structure.
• Participate in physician meetings and assist in policy formation.
• Maintain current medical knowledge and skills through regular Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities.
• Keep licenses, certifications, and hospital privileges current and unrestricted.

Requirements

Education

• Graduation from an accredited medical school.
• Successful completion of an accredited residency program in Emergency Medicine.
• Board eligibility or certification in Emergency Medicine (certification required within seven years of residency completion).
• Complete annual fire/safety and other required in-services.
• Attend mandatory educational offerings as required by policies or regulatory bodies.
• Complete annual CME to maintain license and board certification.
• Complete assigned Computer-Based Learning modules in a timely manner.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

• Current MD/DO license.
• Unrestricted Federal DEA number (Oregon registration preferred).
• Unrestricted ability to participate in Medicare/Medicaid or other federal/state health care programs.
• Valid driver’s license meeting SCHS driving requirements.
• ACLS certification required; additional certifications may be required based on privileges.

Experience

• Experience in hospital practice environments providing Emergency Medicine care.
• Experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) software (Epic experience preferred).
• Advanced written and verbal communication skills for diverse populations.
• Experience working in a team environment and collaborating with healthcare professionals.
• Two years of active practice in Emergency Medicine preferred.
