About the Role

Examines, diagnoses, and treats acute and chronic medical conditions; develops treatment plans and manages patient health issues in accordance with established protocols. Uses current evidence-based guidelines in creating diagnostic and treatment plans. Provides compassionate care which addresses social determinants of health. Maintains accurate electronic health records of patients and completes documentation in a timely manner.

Physicians will rotate between Madras, Prineville, and Redmond and must maintain credentials at all facilities.

Schedule

Shifts can be variable in length. A 1.0 FTE is defined as 1,440 hours per contract year or 120 hours per month. Shifts will be split between day, swing, and night shifts. Call coverage is required; call is typically not on-site, but the physician must be ready and available to come in for a surge or coverage of an ill physician. Call pay is included in the contract.

Responsibilities

  • Provide coverage on weekends, holidays, and nights as required.
  • Work in a single coverage Emergency Department environment.
  • Diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, and other disorders within the Emergency Medicine specialty.
  • Manage acute, emergent medical conditions and injuries, including lacerations and some fracture care.
  • Participate in patient education and promote patient wellness.
  • Perform minor surgical procedures.
  • Analyze reports and findings; order or execute tests, analyses, and diagnostic images.
  • Order, prescribe, and/or recommend drugs, biologicals, or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy.
  • Document patient care accurately and in a timely manner in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Promote coordinated care, good health, and illness prevention.
  • Cooperate with other physicians and caregivers to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Be available to furnish patient care services at all times during assigned shifts.
  • Document all patient care within the EMR and complete tasks in compliance with health system policies for timely and accurate billing.
  • Participate in meetings and assist in policy formation.
  • Keep medical knowledge and skills current through regular Continuing Medical Education (CME) activity.
  • Maintain all licenses, certifications, and active privileges at St. Charles Health System hospitals.
  • Create a healing environment that supports the wholeness of each individual, patient, and caregiver.
  • Provide a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests.
  • Deliver first-rate customer service and patient care with professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Educate, counsel, and assist patients and families regarding health problems and preventive behaviors.
  • Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited medical school.
  • Successful completion of an accredited residency program in Emergency Medicine.
  • Board certification or eligibility in Emergency Medicine (certification required within seven years of residency completion).
  • Current license as MD/DO.
  • Unrestricted Federal DEA number.
  • Unrestricted ability to participate in Medicare/Medicaid or other federal/state governmental health care programs.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet SCHS driving requirements.
  • ACLS certification.
  • Experience in hospital practice environments providing care in Emergency Medicine.
  • Experience using EMR software.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working in a team environment and ability to collaborate with health care professionals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Federal DEA number registered in Oregon.
  • Two years of active practice in Emergency Medicine.
  • Epic EMR software experience.
