Physician - Emergency Medical

In accordance with Navajo Nation and federal law, TCRHCC has implemented an Affirmative Action Plan pursuant to the Navajo Preference in Employment Act. About the role

The ER Physician provides emergency care on a regular and recurring basis to patients in the E.R., including major trauma such as fractures, stab wounds, open chest and abdominal wounds, partial evisceration, concussions, head trauma, subdural hematoma, suicide attempts, and cardiac arrests. The role also involves managing non-emergent and urgent patients through the continuum of hospital care, ordering treatments, tests, and consulting with specialty and primary care physicians as appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive and continuing health and medical care services for patients, including recognition of diseases and injuries requiring referral.
• Consult with other physicians and staff in emergency medicine as required.
• Ensure compliance with JCAHO and EMTALA regulations.
• Promote and participate in community education concerning the Emergency Medical Services system.
• Maintain legible handwriting and use Electronic Health Records (EHR).
• Prepare and organize medical records, including dictating discharge summaries and correspondence.
• Refer patients to appropriate medical or government facilities, providing full clinical information for care and diagnostic procedures.
• Coordinate and integrate patient information into the ongoing health care program at TCRHCC, ensuring timely follow-up care.
• Collaborate with allied health professionals (e.g., Community Health Nurses, Social Workers, Case Managers) to manage patients' medical, psychological, and social needs.
• Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adherence to CDC guidelines for donning, doffing, and disposal.
• Perform data entry in electronic health records pertinent to patient care.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• MD/DO from an accredited school of medicine.
• Completion of a three (3) or four (4) year accredited residency program in Emergency Medicine.
• Board Eligible or Board Certified in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) or American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine (AOBEM).
• Current and unrestricted license to practice as a physician in any U.S. state, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
• Successful completion of the following courses at least once:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) from the American College of Surgeons
• Additional credentialing/privileging qualifications required for Medical Staff membership.
• Satisfactory performance record in prior and current employment, as evidenced by positive references addressing:
  • Positive working relationships with others
  • High ethical standards and no history of complaints from co-workers or patients
  • Reliability and dependability in attendance
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and clinical skills.
• Successful completion of job interviews, background checks, reference checks, fingerprint clearance, physical examinations, and other screenings.
• Submission of all required employment-related documents free of false, misleading, or incomplete information.

Mental and Physical Effort

The role requires the ability to cope with a high level of stress, work alone, demonstrate flexibility, and handle close or crowded work environments. The position may involve exposure to infectious diseases, loud noises, chemical agents, and hazardous equipment.
