Physician - Diagnostic Radiologist

About the role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Responsibilities

• Provide general and specialized diagnostic Radiology services and procedures to VA patients as privileged.
• Assist/intervene with the referring physician for the proper test/treatment selection and protocol.
• Radiology scan interpretation and report generation, using voice recognition software, including interpretation of general diagnostic radiographs, CT, US, MRI, nuclear medicine exams and other diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
• Administer drugs as needed for the performance and interpretation of imaging examinations.
• Supervise technical aspects of all aspects of radiology practiced at VA HCS Lexington.
• Perform additional duties in such a manner as to comply with all requirements of VAHCS Medical Staff Bylaws.
• Encourage participation in research activity.
• Share in call responsibilities as assigned.
• Willing to serve as clinical director of a section of radiology if needed.
• Draft protocols and procedures.
• Meet the needs of customers while supporting VA missions.
• Communicate and treat customers (veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
• Provide consistent information according to established policies and procedures.
• Handle conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.

Requirements

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Qualifications

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Physical Requirements: Moderate Lifting (15-44 lbs); Moderate Carrying (15-44 lbs); Straight Pulling (up to 2-3 hours); Pushing (up to 2-3 hours); Reaching above shoulder; Walking (up to 2-3 hours); Standing (up to 6-8 hours); Kneeling (up to 2-3 hours); Repeated bending (up to 4-6 hours); Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Near vision correctable; Far vision correctable; Depth perception; Ability to distinguish basic colors; Hearing (aid permitted).
