Physician, Department Chair of Anesthesiology
About the role
The Department Chair of Anesthesia at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC) will maintain an active clinical practice while leading a team of anesthesiologists and anesthesiologist assistants. They will foster a culture of collaboration, support provider development, and lead quality and performance improvement.
Responsibilities
- Maintain an active clinical practice and serve as a role model across anesthesia services
- Set strategic goals for the department and lead efforts to improve patient outcomes and streamline perioperative workflows
- Oversee quality improvement initiatives, monitor clinical performance and ensure compliance with institutional standards and regulatory requirements
- Meet regularly with anesthesia staff to support clinical growth and advancement
- Collaborate with administrative leaders locally and at the Dartmouth Health (DH) system level to optimize staffing models, operating room schedules and patient flow
- Participate in department budgeting, monitor finances and revenue integrity
- Participate in provider recruitment, retention, onboarding and succession planning
- Build and maintain strong relationships with surgical colleagues and system-wide partners
Requirements
Requirements include a minimum of a five-year clinical practice and two years of leadership experience, an advanced clinical degree (MD or DO), postgraduate training in a residency program, current or eligible for Vermont Medical License, and ABMS Board Certification.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $550,000 - $560,000, with a comprehensive benefits package.
