Physician Coder - Oncology Surgery

About the role

This role involves reviewing and accurately coding Oncology Surgery and Evaluation & Management (E/M) cases to ensure proper reimbursement, adhering to Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party guidelines. The position requires independent research, meeting productivity and accuracy goals, and effective communication with leadership on coding and documentation issues. You will stay current with coding guidelines, participate in departmental meetings, and be flexible to expand skills into other specialties while maintaining confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Review and accurately code Oncology Surgery and Evaluation & Management (E/M) cases.
• Ensure proper reimbursement by adhering to Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party guidelines.
• Conduct independent research to resolve coding discrepancies.
• Meet productivity and accuracy goals as established by the department.
• Communicate effectively with leadership regarding coding and documentation issues.
• Stay current with coding guidelines and industry updates.
• Participate in departmental meetings and training sessions.
• Expand skills into other specialties as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient and organizational information.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of physician coding experience.
• At least 3 years of experience in Oncology Surgery coding.
• Certification such as CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or CCS-P (Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based).
• Proficiency in anatomy, medical terminology, CPT, ICD-10, modifiers, and billing policies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Auditing experience.
• Proficiency with Cerner PowerChart.
• Additional certifications such as CPMA (Certified Professional Medical Auditor).
• Remote work experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and healthcare systems.
