Physician - Chief of the Section of Cardiology - Full Time Academic

About the role

This position serves a critical role in the education of medical and allied health students, interns and residents in the Department of Medicine, fellows in the Section of Cardiology, and the faculty in the Section of Cardiology. The incumbent will lead the group of Cardiologists, advise the Chairperson on faculty and staff hiring, and oversee the care of patients with cardiac illnesses.

Responsibilities

• Promote clinical production and create opportunities in all department sections
• Lead by example in clinical excellence and clinical productivity
• Maintain the clinical schedule and ensure coverage for all clinical areas
• Review and submit annual financial reports and budget requests
• Optimize clinic operations via appropriate staffing, cooperation with APPs/scheduling/nurses/MAs/staff, and resource utilization in conjunction with leadership
• Develop and monitor goals and business plans for all department sections
• Create, implement, and review appropriate quality metrics for faculty
• Aid in the development of community outreach resources and programs
• Participate in leadership discussions regarding operations, clinical needs/barriers, services, etc.
• Lead and supervise regularly scheduled educational meetings
• Maintain office hour availability M-F outside of clinical responsibilities

Requirements

• Have an M.D.
• Be eligible for medical licensure and clinical practice in the state of Louisiana
• Be Board-Certified or Board-Eligible in the field of Cardiology
• Show competency in the interpretation of EKGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, cardiac catheterization, and other relevant tests, as well as the management of patients with cardiac illnesses, both acute and chronic
• Have excellent communication skills to interface with learners, faculty, healthcare teams, administrators, community organizations, and donors

Qualifications

• Show proven experience in the field of Cardiology
• Show competency in the interpretation of EKGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, cardiac catheterization, and other relevant tests, as well as the management of patients with cardiac illnesses, both acute and chronic
• Show excellent communication skills to interface with learners, faculty, healthcare teams, administrators, community organizations, and donors
• Show a proven record of administrative and academic leadership
• Show demonstrated experience and accomplishments in Cardiology
