About the role

The Bureau of Public Health Clinics seeks to hire a part-time Physician. This role involves performing direct patient care in the clinic, managing day-to-day clinical care, supervising other physicians, coordinating lab and x-ray results, ensuring TB disease reporting and treatment, and participating in various case management activities.

Responsibilities

• Performs direct patient care in his/her clinic 5 days a week.
• Manages day-to-day clinical care of patients within his/her chest center.
• Supervises other physicians in the clinic and completes performance evaluations in a timely manner.
• Captures and follows up on abnormal lab and x-ray results.
• Ensures that all TB disease or suspected TB patients have been reported and that follow-up is completed.
• Coordinates Directly Observed Therapy (DOT) for as many patients as possible.
• Reviews medical records of other physicians to ensure prompt and effective treatment.
• Maintains accurate and thorough case management documentation in the TB registry system.
• Communicates with non-DOH medical providers to reinforce guidelines for high-standard TB treatment.
• Conducts 2-month and end-of-treatment reviews of confirmed cases.
• Regularly reviews medical records of other clinicians to address any issues and take appropriate action.
• Works with center's administrative managers to ensure proper medical record maintenance and form usage.
• Deals with emergency situations in the Center.
• Aids in the coordination of patient flow throughout the clinic.
• Participates in the development and implementation of new TB control policies and protocols.
• Conducts Suspect Review by examining medical records and discussing cases with case managers and clinic staff.
• Gives input to the Directors of Medical Affairs regarding upcoming and current TB bureau policies.
• Assists in the orientation of new staff as needed.

Qualifications

• Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York.
• Valid Board Certification in any specialty area required by the agency, or current application on file for admission to the certifying examination.
• To be assigned to Assignment Level II: One year of satisfactory experience practicing in the specialty area.
• To be assigned to Assignment Level III: Master's degree in Public Health, or equivalent, including or supplemented by graduate credits in epidemiology and biostatistics, and at least two years of satisfactory experience after receiving the Master's degree.
• To be assigned to Assignment Level IV: Valid license to practice medicine, completion of an approved residency program in internal medicine, family practice, pediatrics, or another related specialty, and valid board certification or eligibility in Infectious Disease, Pulmonary Medicine, or a related subspecialty, along with completion of an approved fellowship program in the same areas.
