- Examination of patients, performing comprehensive physical examination, and compiling patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.
- Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests, and interprets test results in collaboration with orthopedic surgeons/staff.
- Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and managing infection.
- Assesses, applies and/or removes a variety of orthopedic casts, splints, and immobilization devices.
- Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, applies appropriate codes and charges for service, and assists in provision of continuity of care.
- Dictates patient records including discharge summaries, history and physical evaluations, operative procedure notes, consultations and office visit notes.
- Documents patient information and care provided in patient record. Uses computer to access/enter needed data.
- Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens.
- Provides continuity of care by consulting with physicians and other staff as necessary for the delivery of quality patient care.
- Participates in research studies as conducted and agreed upon by the physician.
- Maintains all requirements and documentation for state licensure, DEA licensure, NCCPA certification, and hospital staff privileges.
Requirements
- Graduate of AMA accredited physician assistant program.
- Prior experience in the field of orthopedics.
- Prior experience as a physician assistant.
- Current North Carolina PA license.
- Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
