Responsibilities
- Responds to inpatient consult requests and performs consults to include pre-procedure case review, patient evaluation, peri-procedural coordination, and order entry.
- Partners with the IR physician of the day and IR inpatient team to prioritize, coordinate and direct procedure activity to achieve patient care needs while maximizing safety, quality and efficiency.
- Interfaces with Anesthesia's physician floor runners to prioritize, plan and direct patient care activity.
- Reviews all same day/next day case requests in close collaboration with the IR physician for prioritization, staffing and planning.
- Communicates and problem-solves during coordination of procedural activity. Obtains, assigns and adjusts resources throughout the day including procedure rooms, staff, anesthesia and supporting services.
- Directs add-on scheduling.
- Responds to patient care and service communications including pages, phone calls, messaging through the EMR and emails.
- Evaluates and triages ED consults in collaboration with IR physician.
- Serves as consultant to nursing personnel and other health care professionals involved in the care of IR patients.
- Communicates plans of care and daily division activity to the IR technologists, nurse managers, scheduling team, prep and recovery areas, anesthesia and other stakeholders to coordinate all required resources.
- Serves as a resource for radiology prep, PACU, anesthesia and referring services.
- Serves as a preceptor and mentor for APPs.
- Provides clinical leadership in practice, participates in conferences and other professional development opportunities to promote continuous learning and remain knowledgeable of advancements in the field.
- Participates in and leads quality improvement efforts across the division, department and health system.
- Participates in research projects and supports the research mission, assisting with clinical research if applicable within the scope of the clinical operation.
- Provides coverage across unit assignments as required to meet patient care needs.
- Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
- Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
- State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required.
- AHA approved BLS also required unless ACLS was completed through the UMHS Simulation Center.
- ACLS certification (2).
- Two or more years experience in Radiology.
- Three years of experience as a Physician Assistant caring for adult patients.
- Experience caring for adult patients in an inpatient setting, emergency department or surgical/procedural setting.
- Candidate must also adhere to a high standard of personal and professional conduct; demonstrate excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills; and demonstrated ability to interact with a diverse population.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team, handling multiple responsibilities in a fast paced environment.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills, proficient computer and keyboarding skills, and excellent attendance.
