This role is an integral part of the care delivery system, working to provide a healing environment by placing patients first. The incumbent provides specialty and critical care healthcare services in physician offices and non-acute settings, focusing on chronic health conditions in specific populations. Responsibilities include specialty certification, advanced procedures with appropriate privileging, and weekend/on-call coverage on a rotational basis as required. E-consults and telehealth may also be part of the care provided.

Schedule includes seeing hepatology patients in clinic Monday–Friday, hospital rounding as needed, and weekends as required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides appropriate patient care, including recording medical history, physical assessment, developing therapeutic care plans, ordering diagnostic tests, interpreting results, discharge planning, and accurate medical record documentation (20%).
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic studies to determine and implement treatment plans (10%).
  • Makes medical diagnoses and institutes therapy within applicable scope and standards of practice (10%).
  • Institutes emergency measures, treatment, or stabilization in acute situations such as cardiac arrest, hemorrhage, or shock (10%).
  • Ensures timely and accurate documentation in the EMR to support medical coding, billing, and communication with the attending physician (10%).
  • Educates patients and families on health/illness prevention, medication, treatment instructions, and community resources (10%).
  • Communicates effectively with the attending physician regarding the plan of care and consults them for issues outside the Physician Assistant’s scope (10%).
  • Maintains continuing education, participates in patient safety/quality improvement initiatives, and adheres to organizational and advanced practice mission statements (10%).
  • Performs specialty-specific procedures as outlined in privileging and job agreements (10%).

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
  • Current PA Physician Assistant License.
  • PA-C or board-eligible certification.
  • Four to ten years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • MSN from a State Board of Nursing-approved Master’s Program (if applicable).
  • National Board Certification for Nurse Practitioners (AANP, ANCC, NCC, or PNCB) (if applicable).
  • State licensure as a Nurse Practitioner and prescriptive authority (if applicable).
  • Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Licensure within 60 days of hire.
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association).
  • ACLS certification.
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate.
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Emergency or Critical Care settings.
  • Ongoing successful recertification (NCCPA) as a PA-C within 90 days of hire.
