About the role

The Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner position at Mt. Olive Correctional Center provides basic medical services under the supervision of a licensed physician. The role focuses on ambulatory care and includes managing acute and chronic conditions, responding to medical emergencies, coordinating health treatment, and providing education to inmates.

Responsibilities

  • Performs physical examinations, evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment for all inmate patients in various settings.
  • Manages acute and/or chronic conditions with the physician’s supervision.
  • Responds to and initiates care for medical emergencies throughout the facility.
  • Orders appropriate lab tests and medications according to diagnostic testing and treatment protocols.
  • Counsels inmates on preventative care, medical problems, and use of prescribed treatments.
  • Draws blood specimens or performs other comparable procedures when necessary.
  • Provides/presents/participates in education to inmate patients and correctional staff.
  • Maintains confidentiality of inmate records and follows security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications.
  • Completes a minimum of twenty-four (24) CEU's every two years and maintains RN/ARNP or PA licensure (as applicable).
  • Delegates to and supervises other team members as appropriate.
  • Follows Universal Precautions and other infection control practices.

Requirements

  • Current West Virginia RN/ARNP licensure and/or PA licensure as appropriate.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Graduate of an accredited college/university program.
  • Minimum two (2) years' experience in a correctional health setting (preferred).
