Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner

About the role

GI Associates is hiring an Advanced Practice Provider to deliver comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic care to patients in collaboration with supervising physicians. This role ensures high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective care within our clinics, playing a key part in continuity, clinical excellence, and an exceptional patient experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care consistent with clinical standards, including assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation in hospital, clinic, and outreach sites.
• Effectively communicate and coordinate the plan of care with patients, families, referring physicians, and the professional team in both hospital and clinic settings.
• Document all actions and plans accurately and timely, adhering to standards and participating in quality reporting programs (PQRS, Meaningful Use, Clinical Guidelines).
• Collaborate with Clinic Coordinator, Reception, and Clinical Team Leads to build and maintain a cohesive, patient-focused clinic environment.
• Provide inpatient coverage, including patient rounds, consults, and ordering/monitoring lab tests and radiology results while keeping the supervising physician informed.
• Coordinate post-discharge follow-up plans with GI Associates providers to ensure continuity of care.
• Maintain a clinic schedule that maximizes patient access and meets productivity targets.
• Provide in-service education for staff, patient support groups, and community forums, and assist in developing patient education materials.
• Maintain clinical and coding knowledge in an evolving healthcare environment.
• Serve as a role model of customer service for patients, co-workers, and referring providers.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited physician assistant or nurse practitioner program.
• Current and valid Wisconsin Physician Assistant license, or Wisconsin Registered Nurse license and Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber license.
• Current NCCPA certification (for PAs) or AANP/ANCC certification (for NPs).
• BLS and ACLS certification required.
• Minimum of one to three years of practice experience in an adult medicine setting preferred.

Skills & Competencies

• Knowledge of medical diagnostic and therapeutic principles, practices, and techniques.
• Advanced clinical knowledge of the GI system, pharmaceuticals, and GI-related diagnostic testing (lab and radiology).
• Knowledge of medical equipment, instruments, and procedures to administer safe patient care.
• Understanding of regulatory and licensing requirements, including documentation standards, coding, billing, and medical terminology.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and listening skills to interact effectively with patients, physicians, and staff.
• Proficient computer skills, including experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
• Professionalism and respect in all communication and correspondence.
• Ability to exercise initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making to achieve organizational objectives.
• High degree of integrity, adherence to ethical principles, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment and adapt to changing patient care needs.
