About the role

The role requires a Full Time Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner (APP) to join the Internal Medicine team at Highland Hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Work Sunday - Tuesday Schedule, with 12 hour shifts.
    • Weekend shifts are primarily 7a - 7p, while weekday shifts would be 8a - 8p.
  • Work 3 of 9 observed hospital holidays and 8 additional shifts per calendar year.
  • Admit and execute orders on adult patients requiring in-house medical coverage, after resident teams have filled, from the services of Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, subspecialties, Hospitalists, Geriatricians.
  • Obtains detailed sign-out from the APP teams, to assist in evening cross-coverage and any medical issues the APP teams need to follow up.
  • Conveys pertinent patient medical problems to the covering attending so a medical treatment plan can be formed.
  • Admit patients to the inpatient medicine service from the Emergency Room, ICU, or direct admission pathways.
  • Obtains a detailed medical history and performs a complete physical examination. Provides for further data collection.
  • Completes all medical record documentation, including assessment/plan. Writes orders pertaining to the patient’s care, including medication, parenteral therapy, clinical investigation, fluid therapy, laboratory data, X-ray studies, MRI, CAT, cardiac studies, diet, and special instructions according to the patient’s assessed needs.

Requirements

  • Fulfilled the requirements to be a licensed PA or NP in NYS.
  • Medical management of house-covered patients or Emergency Room/ICU training.

Qualifications

  • NYS License PA candidates.
  • Current, valid license to practice as an NP in NYS for NP candidates.
  • Must be BLS certified, ACLS preferred.

Skills

  • Willing to work in an environment that is consistent with ’s philosophy of Continuous Quality Improvement and Highland/PRIDE statement.
  • Maintains adequate CME credits to ensure ongoing competency for performing job duties.
  • Maintains current NYS license and NCCPA Certification.
