Physician Assistant Medical-Surgical Mix (Productivity) / Orthopedics

About the role

The advanced practice provider (APP) provides patient-centered, specialized, evidence-based care across the continuum through an inter-professional approach to treatment, research, education, and advocacy. APPs are board-certified providers who assume responsibility and accountability for health stabilization, promotion, and maintenance of acute and chronic illness or injury. This role contributes to the mission and vision of the organization by being accountable for the delivery of compassionate and safe care within the scope of practice as defined by the Nebraska state statutes, administrative code, and organization bylaws.

Responsibilities

• Provides safe, comprehensive, and compassionate clinical care.
• Affords assessments, synthesizes, and analyzes data, orders diagnostic tests and therapeutic treatments, and evaluates clinical outcomes.
• Synthesizes and integrates the perspectives of interprofessional team members in developing and implementing the plan of care.
• Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; prescribes medications and complex medical regimes while monitoring for desired and adverse outcomes, specific to the infant/child with high risk, complex acute, critical, or chronic conditions.
• Applies evidence-based medicine pertinent to neonatal/pediatric populations.
• Continuously evaluates the relationships among access, cost, quality, safety, and their influence on healthcare outcomes and sustainability.
• Establishes and monitors standards of practice and improves patient care through sharing knowledge, leading teams, and developing programs.
• Constantly considers the child’s development, family’s readiness and resources when translating health information, education, and support.
• Demonstrates understanding of internal and external rules, regulations, and legislation as it relates to APP practice, licensure, certification, and billing compliance.
• Maintains accurate log of credentialed procedures performed.
• Demonstrates competency and expertise when performing credentialed procedures/specialty skills.
• Serves as an advocate for the needs of the children and their families across the health care continuum ensuring the best patient/family experience possible.
• Assists the surgeon in the operating room, first and second assist-at-surgery; performs surgical procedures as directed by the surgeon.
• Responsible to take after-hours call on a rotation basis.

Requirements

• Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in the Physician Assistant program.
• 1-3 years experience as a Physician Assistant.
• Previous experience as surgical first assist is preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of physical, mental, developmental, emotional, and social needs of the neonate, infant, toddler, pre-school, school age, and adolescent patients.
• Maintains current knowledge and skill level in field through reading appropriate journals, networking, and attending conferences or seminars.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with multiple disciplines.
• Ability to be self-directed, with minimum supervision, and detail oriented.

Skills

• Satisfy all relevant criteria and qualifications outlined in the Medical Staff Policy on Advanced Practice Provider, required to be credentialed.
• Maintains practice agreement with service of specialty, and practices within framework of respective scope of practice.
• Knowledgeable in billing regulation practices to include documentation requirements/CPT coding regulations.
• BLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association.
• PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 180 Days.
• DEA License within 30 Days.
