Physician Assistant in Optometry
About the role
We are seeking a part-time Physician Assistant specializing in optical, optometry, and ophthalmology to provide care in nursing homes and assisted living facilities across Gainesville, Jacksonville, and St. Augustine, Florida. This role offers the opportunity to practice ocular and vision care for patients who often lack access to eye care and cannot advocate for themselves, addressing conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, blepharitis, and other eye diseases.
Our mobile practice is equipped with portable OCT, fundus camera, B-scan, and visual fields to diagnose and monitor eye diseases. An ophthalmic technician and scribe are available to assist with patient location, preliminaries, optical services, and EHR/EMR documentation via EyeFinity.
Responsibilities
- Provide ophthalmic and optometric patient care in nursing homes and assisted living facilities under the supervision of an ophthalmologist.
- Perform and assist with ophthalmological procedures, including biopsies, removal of lumps and bumps, tear duct plugs, and eyelid surgeries.
- Utilize portable optometric equipment provided by the company (training included).
Requirements
- Master’s degree as a Physician Assistant and licensed to practice in the state of Florida.
- Background in optical, optometry, or ophthalmology is a plus but not required.
- Recommended: Obtain COA or COT certification during training and development (JCAHPO certifications).
Pay
$400–$550 per day, with an option to earn performance-based bonuses. Paid as a 1099-MISC contractor. Mileage reimbursement is provided for travel beyond 50 miles per day.
Schedule
No weekends. Flexible to work 2–4 days per week, with most days being less than 8 hours.
